T&T left it late to secure the Courts Caribbean Classic Trophy following a 1-1 draw against Guyana last evening.
Levi Gracia’s headed equalizer was enough to claim the trophy.
The encouraging supporter turnout at the Hasley Crawford stadium seemingly stimulated the intensity in the early moments of the match.
Both teams came into the encounter after registering high scores against Barbados in their opening matches.
However the arch rivals locked horns today with both teams enjoying spells of possession in the first half.
The half ended goalless but it took just under an hour before Jamal Shabbaz’s men silenced the T&T in the 59th minute.
It was Neil Danns who calmly converted a penalty after Jesse Williams brought down Guyanese winger Trayon Bobb with a tackle too strong for the referee’s liking.
It wasn’t long before Angus Eve initiated a double midfield change bringing on senior player Mekeil Williams to add some aggression and the courageous John Paul Rochford who was notibly tasked with set pieces.
As the game progressed T&T deployed a number of attacks but was denied on multiple occasions by the Guyanese goal keeper, Akel Clarke who commanded between the sticks.
His heroics was put to the test in the dying minutes of the game when John Paul Rochford was brought down in the 88th minute but yet again Clarke was able to keep his team in front saving Levi Garcia’s penalty kick.
The game look surely in Guyana’s favour however, with only a few minutes left in stoppage time, it Garcia heading home a perfect corner kick delivery from John Paul Rochford.
Chants echoed the stadium as T&T chased the winner but the game ended 1-1.
The draw proved to be a victory still as Angus Eve men were crowned champions of the tri-nation tournament on goal difference.
Great analysis of the game. There is no room for complacency! Both the private sector and TTFA must exploit the goodwill created by the team in winning back the fans and another Tri-nation experience is most welcome in short order.
Aw, this was an extremely good post. Spending some time and actual effort to make a really good article… but what can I say… I procrastinate a lot and don’t seem to get anything done.
